The One and Only JK....(7).

Jayakanthan wrote for magazines , spoke in public too that appeared in dailies and anyone can read them to-day for all he spoke and wrote are available in print media. As one reads what he did speak with regard to politics , we wonder at his prophetic statements and we are sad that he had not been paid the attention he deserved.I am not going into them for my domain here is to show the gentleman he had ever been despite the odds that he was compelled to face.

Jk was never after awards or praise from any quarters. Once Rajinikanth came to  congratulate him. for the Jnanpith award. He was so unassuming as always and he was expressing his happiness over that great honor conferred on JK in simple hearty manner.JK thanked RK with his genial smile and when RK started saying that it should have been celebrated in a big manner by the Government JK brushed him gently to leave the matter there. After exchanging pleasantries Rajini left.Let it be anyone , however popular, important and great -the way Jayakanthan moved with them was in all equal footing and extremely courteous manner. Many illustrious personalities were taking his words with all seriousness and respect. In one public meeting in Madurai years ago I saw him chide a Vice- Chancellor for interpreting a word in Tirukkural in a lighter vein . He would always insist on using words in the right sense.I have seen many film idols, political leaders, very influential VIPs -they meant the same to JK.In all my contact with him ,not even once I saw him in tense or out of temper or acting in haste or worry. He appeared to me as a 'Stitapragyaa' one who loses no poise in any time of good or bad.

JK was pragmatic. He would do what must be done in any situation which always turned out as the right course to do.He had never blamed anyone with rancor or bitterness. It had been always objective-any remark against any one at any time. Even when he was blamed for expressing a contradictory view other than expressed by the majority , he would clarify the issue in question  at hand in detail and never try to convince those who opposed his views. There was nothing needed to take back what he had said as he had only said what he felt right. Such a conviction is indeed the trait of intellectual clarity. But when he had to take a compromising stand he would do without much hesitation for after all the right course of a deed was better than an ineffective one.

JK used to say that he should come back to the earth and enjoy life each time better. He paid no heed to the much valued aim of Hinduism to  attain  'Mukthi'. For all I knew he was enjoying that higher state 'here and now.' He had never regretted about past nor would talk  about future too. He was always found in joy- bliss - happiness .peace. The final two years were spent more in deep silence and much without contact as he himself had wished. A week prior to his final day on the earth-when I introduced Dr. Dilipan a well known  friend to JK to Bala Periayavar-Sri Vijayendrar of the Kanchi Mutt-the Pontiff was kind enough to offer a shawl and a cardamom garland to be taken to JK. Jayakanthan acknowledged the Saint's gesture -he was very week-closed his eyes as though he were in 'samadhi' after we placed them on his neck.

"Here was the man , when comes such another?"--Shakespeare.
